The iTAG® system was conceived to help Commercial Entities and Individual Consumers identify and manage hard to track assets. iTAG® digital or "smart" labels and hang tags are durable, easily visible labels/tags that can be applied to everyday items and other serviceable and warrantable components. Use of the iTAG® smart labels makes it possible to easily track assets within the same framework.

The iTAG® NFC and RFID read/write label and hang tag transforms any product into a smart, digitally connected asset by enabling instant identification, authentication, and data access using any iPhone or Android device—no batteries, scanners, or special hardware required. Commercial Entities can embed labels into connectors, cables, or cartridges, allowing technicians and fleet managers to simply tap their phone to retrieve or update serial numbers, installation data, maintenance records, or cloud-hosted information, delivering faster service, reduced errors, improved traceability, and a seamless bridge between physical hardware and digital systems including, but not limited to: tires, wheels, employee tags, maintenance tools, batteries, starter motors, alternators, heater blowers, windshield wiper motors, ABS Systems, battery cables, etc.  When scanned by a technician, these digital smart ID labels provide essential inspection and maintenance record-keeping. Inspection and maintenance data, such as the type of action performed, the device’s GPS location, and the equipment used, are recorded for each event/occurrence. The ability to quickly track this information allows organizations to optimize their use of resources, saving time and money.

The iTAG® NFC and RFID read/write Velcro straps, labels and hang tags can also be utilized by Individual Consumers to track everyday items such as luggage, golf clubs, sports equipment, gym bags, back packs, dog collars, laptops, mobile phones, clothing, auto parts, tires, wheels, home goods, storage boxes, block chain, etc.

Commercial Entities - How It Works

During an inspection, the iTAG® smart label plays a key role in enabling the inspector to quickly input the identity of each unique item involved. In the case of inspecting a vehicle’s tires, the measured attributes such as pressure and tread depth can be associated with the tire’s unique ID by scanning the iTAG® smart label each time the inspector moves on to a different tire.  The unique ID can also be input manually by reading the serial number printed on each tag.  This will ensure a smart device will not be strictly necessary to identify an asset.

The unique ID number displayed on and stored in the iTAG® smart label is only the start of the information that can be locally stored on each individual iTAG® smart label.  In the case of tires the manufacturer product code, tire size, fleet tire code, fleet name, Department of Transportation (DOT) code, date of purchase, and other information can be included. Each iTAG® smart label can store up to 120 digits of customizable data.  Again, the local information stored on the tag is not the only capability. Any number of other metrics can now be associated with the uniquely identified item in the cloud. In this way, whenever an iTAG® smart label is scanned a complete history can be pulled from the cloud and reviewed. For tires, this can include data history of repairs, retreads, load range, tread pattern, Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) position/condition codes, and more.  Temperature and pressure readings gathered from a tire pressure monitoring system can be read by a mobile device and written to the tire iTAG® smart label to provide a local history of tire condition.

iTAG® smart labels that are NFC enabled are written by NFC capable devices such as smart phones or tablets.  The iTAG® smart label's local data storage can be written to/from these devices with the use of specialized apps. The information can be made read-only so that once written, the information in the iTAG® smart label can no longer be edited. Alternatively, the user can choose to leave the tag read-write capable if any revisions to the tag are foreseen.

Examples of the iTAG® smart ID labels:

The iTAG® smart labels above can display VMRS, serial, and model numbers on a 1.38 inch tag. Each iTAG® smart label can store up to 120 digits of customizable data in its NFC tag. Additionally, custom data can be stored as part of the QR code found on the iTAG® smart label. The image on the right shows the iTAG® smart label secured inside a plastic carrier disk, which can be easily riveted to flat, rigid areas of the vehicle body.

The images above show two designs for use on tire sidewalls. On the left, the iTAG® smart label is secured inside a rubber carrier, which is vulcanized to the surface of the tire. On the right is a fully rubber, laser printed design, which can be secured directly to the tire sidewall. Each tire iTAG® smart label can include data such as history of repairs, retreads, load range, tread pattern, Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS) position/condition codes, and more. Whenever an iTAG® smart ID label is scanned, a complete history can be pulled from the cloud and reviewed.
